Here are some helpful hints and tips so you can get the most out of your daily alerts.

• Be specific: If you add very general words you will get very general results. For instance, an alert for the word "TV" won’t give you the best results because it is too broad. Instead, add specific details: What size are you looking for? What brand? What price? A good example of a TV alert is this:
  
  42" plasma tv (sony, jvc, philips)
  
  This search would bring back 42" plasma listings that are Sony, JVC or Philips brands.
• Don't search for two items at once: If you are looking for a "tent" and a "sleeping bag" don't try and put them both in the same alert, otherwise you will only be getting results with BOTH of these keywords in it.
• Use negatives: By putting a - in front of a word you can exclude any results containing that keyword. This is a very good technique for eliminating items that you don't want. For example, if you set up an alert for "ipod video", you will get alerts for items such as "cases" and "skins" as well. But if you add “-cases” and “-skins” to your alert, you will take any listings with these words out and ensure your alerts are more targeted.
• Use the options if possible: If you know what price you are prepared to pay, enter in a minimum and maximum price. Auction Alert will then only give you results in your price range. Also make sure you select the option to search in the description. Some listings may only have the keywords there.
